Postdoctoral Academy

The LabexMed Postdoctoral School welcomes young researchers, doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers within its partner research laboratories. The members of the School are the winners of the various calls for application of the current year as well as the alumni, previous calls for application laureates to whom LabexMed proposes to remain as members in order to develop an international network of young researchers in Human and Social Sciences for the Mediterranean .

LabexMed offers four types of calls for postdoctoral contracts and scholarships:

1. Incoming postdoctoral contracts

This call for applications is intended for young researchers who have completed their doctorate abroad, or who have already completed a postdoctoral contract abroad. The research projects presented should focus on the question “How to rethink the Mediterranean today”.

LabexMed awards five such contracts each year. The contracts are for a period of one year, renewable once. The call is published in January of each year.

2. Outgoing postdoctoral contracts

This call for applications is intended for young researchers who have completed their doctorate (admission limit is two years after the defense date) at Aix-Marseille University in one of LabexMed’s partner laboratories and aims to encourage a first international experience. The postdoctoral research is conducted at one of LabexMed’s international partner institutions which support the application. The project should focus on the question “How to rethink the Mediterranean today” as well as any specific interest of the partner.

LabexMed awards three such contracts each year. The contracts are for a period of one year. The call is broadcast directly by the unit directors within their laboratory at the beginning of each calendar year.

3. LabexMed / MuCEM postdoctoral contracts:

As part of a partnership with the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations (MuCEM), LabexMed offers an annual postdoctoral contract to implement a research project that integrates with the museum’s scientific and cultural programming. The postdoctoral fellow will be assigned to a LabexMed partner unit and will carry out his work within the MuCEM’s scientific team.

The research project is built in connection with the themes around which the museum’s collections are organised. This project should also be within the framework of the research activities of the host laboratory, partner of LabexMed.

LabexMed awards one such contract each year. The contract is for a period of one year, renewable once.

All LabexMed postdoctoral contracts must fall under one of LabexMed’s three research themes, namely:

  • Socio-economic, political and legal processes.
  • Cultural processes and Heritage dynamics. Circulation of knowledge and objects.
  • Territorial dynamics and human-environment interactions.

4. Gerda Henkel Stiftung / LabexMed Scholarship:

As part of a partnership with the Gerda Henkel Foundation, a postdoctoral scholarship is offered each year for young researchers working on Heritage issues in the Mediterranean (disciplines: Archeology, History, Art History, Anthropology). There is no prerequisite in terms of where one has obtained one’s doctorate. The research project presented should be part of LabexMed’s second research theme: Cultural processes and Heritage dynamics. Circulation of knowledge and objects.

LabexMed awards one such scholarship each year. The scholarship is for one year. The annual call for applications is published in January.
